On-going Training:

Hall Directors participate in monthly sessions on topics such as advising and supervision. These sessions are published annually in the Fall Training HD Training Schedule and are typically held on Friday afternoons. Hall Directors also participate in student leadership workshops throughout the year along with their CCC members.

Complex Coordinators direct a monthly “all-complex” meeting for their staff and use this time to react to any pressing issues in the complex and to coordinate the presentation of training activities designed to help RAs be prepared for upcoming job duties.

During the year, individual complexes will generally host staff retreats. These retreats are designed to build and strengthen staff teams, explore group dynamics and get information. While on retreat, Staff members may participate in group team development activities, engage in service learning projects, or engage in skill-based training to improve job effectiveness.

Depending upon the needs of our staff, the Office of Residence Life coordinates one “all-department” training day, typically on a Saturday late in the Fall term or during Winter session. Format change from year to year, with some training experiences facilitated by invited speakers and others designed in a conference format with opportunities for staff members to create and present their own sessions. Staff members will typically be given at least one month notice before any all-department workshops are held.

For Resident Assistants hired after the conclusion of the Fall Training period, we require a one day training conference typically held during the first week of Spring semester. RAs hired after the formal training period must also complete a series of training activities coordinated by their Complex Coordinator and Hall Director beginning with their first week of employment.

Questions about this information should be directed to your Complex Coordinator.
