Where to go for Help
As a staff member, you may need assistance from one of our professional staff members. When in doubt, always start looking for an answer to your question with your Complex Coordinator. This individual will either be able to assist you, or can point you in the correct direction. Below is a summary of the responsibilities of the two Assistant Directors and two Associate Directors. If after speaking to your Complex Coordinator and the appropriate AD, you still have not found an answer to your questions, feel free to contact the Director of Residence Life at kkerr@udel.edu or by calling (302) 831-1201.
- Supervise Complex Coordinators of all first year student areas.
- Manage crises situations and oversee the day-to-day functioning of the first year residence halls.
- Coordinate our assessment efforts with the Office of Educational Assessment.
- Coordinate the evaluation and promotion processes of staff.
- Develop curriculum for and manage the RA Class.
- Coordinate on-going training of staff.
- Supervise Complex Coordinators of all upper division student areas.
- Manage crises situations and oversee the day-to-day functioning of the upper division residence halls.
- Oversee Residence Life programming and large scale events such as Resident Appreciation Weekend.
- Work with the advisor of RSA and coordinate leadership development opportunities in the halls, including Complex Community Councils.
- Manage all Public Relations responsibilities for the department.
- Implement marketing and outreach strategies to increase faculty participation.
- Administer programming budget.
- Plan end-of-the-semester department banquet and student leadership awards.
- Read and process all incident reports submitted by Residence Life staff members. Work with the Associate Directors to manage these situations.
- Develop and implement strategies to develop strong and positive communities in the residence halls.
- Manage the Residence Hall Regulation (RHR) System.
- Convene Residence Life Safety Committee and direct our efforts to ensure safe and healthy residence hall environments.
- Manage alcohol and drug education efforts for residence hall students.
- Liaison with Facilities, Facilities Planning & Construction, and Housing Assignment Services.
- With the Associate Director and the Department of Public Safety, execute the Community Police Program.
- Coordinate our involvement in campus-wide activities such as Delaworld.
- Manage the recruitment, training, and supervision of the Arrival Survival Team.
- Oversee activities pertaining to opening and closing including early check-in.
- Edit and update our staff manual annually.
- Manage selection processes for Residence Life Hall Directors, Resident Assistants, Complex Coordinators, and salaried staff members.
- Oversee training for Residence Life Hall Directors, Resident Assistants, Complex Coordinators, and salaried staff members.
- Manage RAT Camp and mid-year conferences.
- Coordinate the arrival of all live-in professional and student staff members.
- Serve as Human Resources liaison.
