SUBJECT: ROOM ASSIGNMENT PROCESS
I hope this memo will answer some of your questions about the Room Assignment Process.
If you receive and accept an RA position, you should be aware of the following information:
If you apply to be an RA and you entered the room assignment process:
Your room assignment will be changed to the RA room to which you have been assigned. If you accept your RA position, your deposit can be applied to other charges on your account (current or future) or can be refunded (if there is no balance due on your account).
You may not " give away" any assignment you receive through the room assignment process; however, if you requested to be assigned with a articular roommate and then decide to accept an RA position, your roommate can request that any other person who has already applied for housing be assigned to the vacant space. Roommates must select a new roommate by May 26, 2006 or a student on the waiting list will be assigned to that space. The new roommate will need to complete a room change form available online at http://ww.udel.edu/has and should note on the form that (s)he is taking the space previously assigned to a Resident Assistant.
If you accept an RA position and then are dropped from the RA job for academic reasons, we will try to reassign you to a similar space as if an RA position had not been offered. For example, if you were on the waiting list for one of the room assignment processes, you will be placed on the waiting list according to your original priority. If you had been assigned a single on East Campus, we will try to give you a single on East Campus. Of course, reassignment to an exact area or type of room cannot be guaranteed. Also, if you had originally been part of a roommate pair and another roommate had been assigned we will not remove that person.
If you accept an RA position and then later decide to turn down the position, you will be guaranteed housing; however, your name will be placed on the bottom of the upperclass waiting list.
If you apply to be an RA but do not enter the Room Assignment Process:
A. You will be required to submit an Application/ Agreement in May. Your Complex Coordinator will supply you with an application once you have been offered a position.
B. If you later turn down the position and decide to apply for on campus housing, you will be guaranteed housing and your name will be placed on the bottom of the upperclass waiting list.
C. All Resident Assistants are responsible for abiding by the policies as stated in the Academic-Year Residence Hall Agreement Students who are leaving a Resident Assistant position during the academic year, either through termination or resignation, are required to make a decision on whether they wish to remain on campus or to leave the residence halls. RAs who leave their position will be required to fill out a " RA Housing Intention Form. " This form and instruction will be given to the RA at the time of the meeting when the resignation/termination is discussed with the Hall Director or Complex Coordinator.
