The UD Technology Corporation (UDTC) was established in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) entity, with the University of Delaware as the sole member of the corporation. According to its certificate of incorporation, “The purpose of the entity is to support the University of Delaware through scientific investigation, research and education, the dissemination and application of scientific knowledge, and administration and acquisition of ownership of the University of Delaware’s technology assets, provided that the activities of the Corporation shall at all times be carried on at, or in association with the University of Delaware and to engage in all lawful business for which corporations may be incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware.”
Since its establishment in 2003, UDTC has been recognized as a mechanism to create both public and University value for transferred technology. A major part of the mission is to commercialize intellectual property developed at UD. This goal is achieved by directly licensing such technologies to corporations and other entities and by assisting in the formation and structure of start-up companies whose mission is to commercialize such intellectual property. UDTC has aided in the creation of several faculty start-up companies, providing guidance on business plans and granting licenses to increase the likelihood of technology adoption and commercial success.

A partnership of industry, university, and government
led to the development of the Delaware Technology Park
in Newark, home to some of the most innovative start-up
companies and research centers in the region in the
fields of biotechnology, information technology,
and advanced materials
UDTC is dedicated to helping the local economy. With the help of the Delaware Biotechnology Institute and the Delaware Technology Park, start-up companies are able to locate near the University of Delaware where it is easier for them to access University expertise.
UDTC activities are not limited to the commercialization of technology developed at the University of Delaware. The corporation also accepts technology donations and supports research and related services.
