GAMEDAY RULES

We have it in the bag.

There are three simple steps to successfully participate in Game Recycling:

  1. Upon entry, tailgaters receive a blue/clear bag for recyclables and a black bag for trash.
  2. Place your recyclables in the blue bag and your trash in the black bag
  3. Before you head to the game, take your recycling and trash to a recycling and waste station located at the end of each parking row.

Football Game Day Recycling: Get in the Game and Recycle!

The University of Delaware is preparing for its second year of football Game Day Recycling. The 2008 Single Stream Game Day Recycling Program diverted 10.72 tons of recyclables from the landfill through assistance from both registered student organizations and the Greek community.

The University’s goal for the upcoming season is an increase in the total amount of recycled waste to 16.6 tons, or a 40% diversion rate.

In anticipation of the 2009 football season, the University will be increasing the number of recycling containers in parking lots, tailgating areas, and around the stadium to handle the disposal of all recyclable items. Game Day recycling is an opportunity for all members of the UD community to demonstrate their efforts on behalf of the “green” movement, in addition to, of course, to rooting for our favorite Blue Hens!

RecycleMania

RecycleMania is a friendly competition among college and university recycling programs to encourage waste reduction throughout campus communities. Schools report recycling and trash data over a 10-week period, culminating in a “rank” by performance of those universities that collected the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or had the highest recycling rate.

Last year, UD was 100th out of the 510 participating colleges and universities in the Gorilla Prize category, for larger schools that recycle the highest gross tonnage of combined paper, cardboard, bottles and cans, with a competition total of 128,737 pounds. The University of Delaware is currently getting pumped for RecycleMania 2010 and will count on the UD community to reach new heights in the RecycleMania competition!
