Spirit of the Game
The UD Women's Club basketball team is a great group of young women who have found a balance between being competitive and having fun both on and off the court. Being a part of this team allows you to play a high-level of basketball without the time commitment of being on a varsity sport. While winning an East Coast Championship certainly tops their list of goals, it is clear that great friendships and experiences seem to come as a natural side-effect of this team effort.
Try outs are held during fall semester. Typically try outs take place within the first or second week of school. There are will be no tryouts held in the spring semester. The selection of the team will take place at the conclusion of the fall try out. Please stop by the Women's Club Basketball table during Activities Night. If you would like to be put on our email list please contact an officer below.
Team carries approximately 15 women on the roster.
The team will practice 2-3 nights a week at the Carpenter Sports Building on campus.
National and/or Regional Affiliation
The University of Delaware Women's Club Basketball team is a member of the East Coast Women's Club Basketball League. The team competes against a number of regional universities that include the University of Maryland, Lehigh University, James Madison University, University of Virginia, Villanova University, University of Pennsylvania, Penn State University and Towson University.
Team members are required to be full-time students at the University of Delaware. Members, both new and returning, must pay seasonal dues of $150-$175. Commitment is a very important part of this program and thus practices are 100% mandatory, with the only exception being class conflicts. Any outstanding circumstances should be discussed with executive officers. Members are also required to participate in all team fundraisers, which usually occur 3 times a semester.
During the fall the team plays in approximately 5 tournaments, all on weekends (similar to AAU basketball schedules). Most of the tournaments are two days, and some require overnight stays. During the spring we play approximately 3 tournaments, also all entirely on weekends. The team travels anywhere from 1 to 7 hours for tournaments and usually play 4 games a weekend. At tryouts, potential members will be informed of the tournament schedule and can then discuss any conflicts with the executive officers.
The team provides basketballs for practices and games. New members are required to purchase their uniform which they can keep upon graduation. Basketball sneakers are highly recommended.
