Spirit of the Game
The Men's Club Volleyball team is comprised of competitive volleyball players that hail from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and even, Rhode Island. The level of experience varies from player to player, as some have played volleyball at the middle school, high school, and club levels, while some may have little experience with the sport. There are two teams - an A and a B team. The A team consists of the upper echelon of the players, and usually travels and participates in more tournaments than the B team. The A team also competes at the National Championships every April. This is the largest and last tournament of the year in which approximately 250 teams partake. The club is looking for players who have a passion for playing the game of volleyball, can remain committed to the club throughout the year, and who can be held accountable and treated as adults. When not in practice, club members enjoy playing competitive pick-up games on the green, and on Harrington Beach as well.
Try-outs occur in the fall, the club usually does not take on members in the spring, and the fall is when the primary roster for the year is comprised. For more details please use the below contact information.
There is an A and B team, and each team has around 12 players per team, but this number does fluctuate from year to year. Our team is not co-ed, there is a separate Women's Club Volleyball team.
Practices are held in the CSB. Practice times and dates will most likely be on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
National and/or Regional Affiliation
The Men's Club Volleyball team is a member of the Eatern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) which is the club conference in the region. The team is also a member of the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCFV) which hosts the National Tournament in Houston, TX.
Dues can range from $100-$200 a semester, depending on the size of the roster, the amount of fundraising, and other annual expenditures (coaches salaries, membership and tournament fees, jersey and equipment fees). Practices are held twice a week, which totals about 5 hours per week. Although, individuals are strongly encouraged to play more during the week to hone up on their skills, whether it is peppering with a partner, playing on the green with other club members, or playing pick-up games in the Little Bob. It is also recommended to participate in weight-training and cardio activities as a supplement to the scheduled practice times in order to achieve a high level of fitness, which will improve your skills and play. Attendance at practice is mandatory, unless a serious matter arises (family emergency, sudden illness). If a member is to miss a practice, an email/ phone call/ text to the coach or president is required as an explanation, and it must be submitted in a timely fashion (not 1-2 hours before practice).
The club provides nets and net systems, balls, and the facility to play in. Individuals must have athletic wear, sneakers and any other volleyball equipment that they may want (knee pads, ankle braces).
