CLUB FIELD HOCKEY WINS NATIONAL TITLE

The University Club Field Hockey completed their season this weekend by winning the National Field Hockey League Championship. The team had a dominating season before Nationals, having a record of 14 wins and 1 loss. There are 87 teams in the National Field Hockey League from all over the United States. The top 16 teams are chosen to compete in the National Tournament in Virginia Beach at the National Field Hockey Training Center. The team was ranked 3rd going into the tournament that was held on November 5th and 6th.

UD played Old Dominion in their first game on Saturday and won 4-3. UD then played Penn State University and won 3-0. UD played their final game on Saturday against the University of Maryland and won 4-0. UD received the top spot in their pool and advanced to the quarterfinals on Sunday. UD played the University of Connecticut. After regulation time the score was tied 1-1. The game went into sudden death 7 v. 7 over time. UD scored within the first 2 minutes to win the game 2-1 and advanced to the semifinals. UD played Duke and won 4-0 and advanced to the Championship game.

UD played the University of Virginia who was ranked 1st going into the tournament and were undefeated. The game was tied 2-2 after regulation time and once again the game went into a sudden death 7 v. 7 over time period. UD was awarded a penalty stroke in over time and JaJa Kentwell scored his stroke and won the game.

The University of Delaware Club Field Hockey Team was crowned the National Champions for the 14th annual Championship. UD has never won this title before. UD ended their season with an incredible record of 20 wins and 1 loss, which is the best in the entire league.
