Meet the instructors

Get to know the UD fitness instructor team!

Whitney: Whitney is the Fitness Coordinator for the University of Delaware. She loves UD because it is where her career began and where she met her husband. She is certified to teach: Cycling, Kickboxing, Pilates, Bootcamp, BODYPUMP, and other formats. Group Fitness and bodybuilding are an integral part of her life, and she enjoys sharing her passion with others. Whitney trains and competes in figure competitions.

Christine: Christine (CK) is the Assistant Director of Recreation and oversees the fitness programs and fitness facilities at UD. She has a degree in exercise science and masters in Health Studies. She is certified through ACE in personal training and group exercise and is also a Crossfit level 1 coach. She teaches UD Cycle, when free time allows!

Sue: Sue is a UD cycle and yoga instructor. She took spin instruction training from the YWCA and a course with Mad Dog. Sue has been practicing yoga for over ten years with Michael Fahey, an Iyengar instructor. She helped start the Triathlon Training Program at UD and is the faculty advisor for the student Tri Club. When she is not at the gym, Sue works on campus in Plant and Soil Science.

Jaime: Is a full-time employee at UD. She got hooked on fitness classes while earning her Master's Degree, and got up the nerve to try teaching classes in November 2011.  She teaches  Strength/Toning classes and Body Pump.

Jason: Jason teaches UD Cycle and also competes with the Tri Club. He is an avid road cyclist, arborist, and a welcome addition to the UD Group Fitness staff.

Cristina: Cristy is currently studying Dietetics and Communications. After studying Flamenco and Belly Dance, she fell in love with Zumba because of its ability to provide a great workout while exploring different cultures and have fun. Cristy has taught classes on Long Island, in Seattle and at the Ritz Carlton in Jamaica. She is certified in Zumba, Zumba Toning, Aqua Zumba and is working to become certified in ZumbAtomic and Zumba Sentao. She is excited to bring the fitness party to UD!

Lindsay: Lindsay is a junior Elementary Education major at the University of Delaware. She is a certified Zumba instructor and is also certified to teach Kickboxing through the International Sports Conditioning Association. Lindsay has her Group Fitness certification through AFAA. Lindsay also teaches BODYPUMP and UD Cycle.

Debbie: Debbie is a Junior International Relations major. She teaches all types of yoga, but mostly Power Yoga, and was certified in Long Island, New York.  Debbie enjoys teaching because she loves both the physical and spiritual elements of this format. She wants to spread the joy and benefits of this get practice with anyone else willing to learn. 

Bill: Bill received his yoga certification through Integrated Yoga Therapy, and is also a certified Thai Yoga specialist. Bill has been teaching yoga for over 12 years, at UD. His yoga style is a form of Hatha yoga that combines elements of Kripalu yoga and Iyengar yoga. Bill encourages each person to accept his/her personal, unique challenges and to practice yoga from a perspective of self-observation, non-judgmental participation, and a willingness to grow and learn as body, mind, and breath become integrated.

Amy: Amy is a UD Alumni and a Registered Dietician! She is certified to teach Yoga through the YogaWorks certification, and has studied with Chrissy Carter. Amy specializes in Ashtanga and Iyengar styles. She enjoys helping individuals strengthen their minds, bodies, and souls through yoga.

Cleo: Cleo is certified in Spinning through Mad Dogg Athletics. She loves to teach UD Cycle, and has not declared her major.

Libby: Libby is certified in spinning and teaches UD cycle. She is a sophomore at the University, and is majoring in communications. Libby’s classes are full or energy, and she is a very motivating instructor.

Leanne: Leanne has been teaching Group Fitness classes since June, 1990. She teaches Hi/Lo aerobics, Step, CardioMix, muscle toning/sculpt, Boot Camp, and Pilates. Leanne also taught and re-created the Aerobic Instructor Training Course in 1993 and currently teaches a Group Instructor Training course. Leanne has been a Fitness Coordinator and Cheerleading coach for UD as well. She is also certified with the AACCA (American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors). Finally, Leanne is an accomplished gymnastics coach!

Alysha: Alysha is a UD alumni who teaches Step, BODYPUMP, Butts and Guts, and other formats. Alysha is passionate about group fitness and provides creative, high energy workouts. She also works as a Middle School music teacher.

Shayna: Shayna is a sophomore at UD, studying Health Behavioral Science. She has her Zumba Instructor Certification as well as her Personal Training Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Shayna motivates others to challenge themselves because she knows that the outcome is incredibly rewarding, both physically and mentally. Her goal is to make her class participants feel empowered, strong and sexy, and proud of themselves!

Siobhan: Siobhan is an undergraduate who teaches Zumba! In addition to working for UD Group Fitness, this certified Zumba instructor is invovled with the Zumba club and recently obtained her certification in Bootcamp and Group Exercise.

Amanda: Amanda is a graduate student with the Physical Therapy Department. She teaches Bootcamp, and is a certified personal trainer.

Melissa: Melissa is a sophomore who is certified to teach UD Cycle through Cycling Fusion. She is new to our staff and a welcome addition!

Lucy: Lucy is a sophomore in the Exercise Science program. She teaches UD Cycle, BODYPUMP, and Pilates. She provides challenging classes that are sure to deliver amazing results!

Alex: Alex is certified to teach Zumba and is a new addition to our UD Group Fitness staff!

Max: Max teaches UD Cycle and is certified through SPINNING. He works on campus for the department of Disability Services, and is working on his Master's Degree in Health Promotion.
