1993-1994 Undergraduate Catalog College of Human Resources Textiles, Design and Consumer Economics Introduction The Department of Textiles, Design and Consumer Economics offers programs in fashion merchandising, apparel design, textiles, and consumer economics for business or government. The Textiles and Clothing: Merchandising major emphasizes the business aspects of buying and selling textile and apparel products, including retail management and fashion promotion. Textile Science addresses the fundamental connections between the structure of textile products (from fibers to finishes) and their end-use properties. Students in Apparel Design learn to apply creative design to aesthetic endeavors as well as functional problems. The Consumer Economics program equips students with the skills to analyze and evaluate the impact of economic, social and political factors on consumer decisions and to study the consumer policies of business and government. Generally a 2.25 minimum overall grade point average is required for internal transfers. In most cases, applications are evaluated in a rolling basis. However, there may be some enrollment limitations in certain majors. Students interested in transferring into the department are advised to contact the Department office regarding selection policies.
