Although there are no porgrams in the College of Engineering which lead to a degree in biomedical engineering, considerable research and instruction in the application of engineering to problems related to the human body are being conducted in the Chemical, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering Departments. Many College faculty are actively involved in the Orthopedic and Biomechanical Engineering Center, the Center for Applied Science and Engineering in Rehabilitation, the Biomechanics and Movement Science Program, and the University's Sports Science Laboratory. These efforts are also supported by programs in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Physical Therapy. In addition, education and research projects in biomedical engineering often involve extensive interaction with local medical centers and industrial laboratories. |
