Shrink Those Bulky PowerPoint Files
Faculty who distribute PowerPoint presentations online
can take advantage of a feature in PowerPoint XP to dramatically reduce
file size and thereby make it easier for students to access.
Here's how to do it, assuming you're working with PowerPoint XP. (Don't
forget there are additional
considerations for efficient and economical printing of PowerPoint
presentations.)
Open
one of your Powerpoint presentations.
- Right click on any image on any slide.
- On the pop-up menu that appears, select Format Picture.
- In the Format Picture window, on the Format tab, click the Compress...
button.
- Make the following selections (shown at right)
- apply to all
- change resolution to screen/web
- check compress pictures
- check delete cropped areas
- Click OK.
- Powerpoint will give you a reminder that image quality may degrade.
This will most like be negligible, but you can decide.
- Click on Apply to have it compress all the images in the current file.
If you save the file under a different name, you'll see that the file
size is significantly smaller.
