This quiz was created using a PRS Interwrite quiz file, and the Flash Element PRS Quiz. To create a similar page using Dreamweaver, you must install the Interwrite PRS Dreamweaver Extension. Once the extension is installed, you will have a new Flash Element which is accessible directly from the Flash Elements toolbar. Note: These instructions assume that you are working within a Dreamweaver-defined site. If you do not know how to define a site within Dreamweaver, consult Part 1 of UD's Learn Dreamweaver Site.
- Locate the Flash Elements Menu Bar (this replaces the 'Common' menu bar near the top of the screen. Click the word 'Common' to view other Menus). Mouse over the icons in the menu bar until you find PRS Quiz. Click this icon once.
- You will be promted to save
the Flash Element. It is a good idea to save it to the same folder containing your html, but anywhere within your site structure is fine. Name your file prsQuiz.swf. Actually, you can give it any name you want, so long as it has the .swf extension.
- Once you have saved the Flash Element as an swf, you will see a gray box appear in your html page. Click once on this to select it. Locate the Flash Element panel in the panels display on the right of your screen. This panel gives you the opportunity to customize your quiz. The only field you must change within the Flash Element panel is the xmlSource. This is where you must enter the name of the prs quiz file you wish to use.
- Click once on the default name ("quiz.xml"). The usual Dreamweaver targeting icons will pop up. If you have not already copied your prs quiz file into your web folder, don't worry! Dreamweaver will do this for you. Just click on the folder icon next to the xmlSource filename, and browse to your PRS storage location. The default location on a PC is C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\PRS.
- Select the xml file you wish to use. You will be prompted to save this somewhere within your site folder. Do so, and you are ready to roll!
The easiest place to store your xml file is int the same folder with the html. This makes it easy to upload everything you need in a single operation. Be sure to upload BOTH the html and the xml files. Dreamweaver will take care of the other files you need if you say yes when it asks whether you want to upload dependent files (recommended!).
