Theme for 2008Explore the connections between technology and teaching and learning. Building upon what you want your students to learn, this theme will present an overview of the myriad choices and guide participants toward specific strategies for their teaching. Participants will begin to create instructionally valuable uses for technology in the hands-on sessions.
All faculty—new or veteran—can take advantage of the summer faculty institute to expand their support network and undertake new endeavors. Recently appointed faculty will appreciate a comprehensive introduction to all of the resources available to meet their teaching and technology needs. Veteran faculty will find that familiar service units have continually redefined their existing services and added new ones based upon evolving teaching and learning needs and emerging technologies. In addition, this theme will include hands-on sessions covering the most commonly needed computing skills.
Among many other possibilities, faculty will have an opportunity to apply the strategies and skills from this theme in the Student Multimedia Design Center in the Morris Library. The Student Multimedia Design Center extends multimedia production capability and technology assistance through a teaching and learning facility, offering opportunities for students:
- to develop and demonstrate communication skills through recording, playback, and tutoring,
- to gather and present information about their learning outcomes in media formats such as electronic portfolios and exhibitions, and
- to create multimedia-enriched course projects.
