Macintosh Technology Bundle

Overview

The technology bundle, for faculty participant's future teaching endeavors at the University. The technology bundle will be the property of the faculty member's department. Components include hardware, installed software, and optional software. There is no cost for faculty who participate in the week-long program.

Hardware

Faculty who participate in the week-long program and indicate a preference for Macintosh platform technology will receive a MacBook Pro. The computer will be provided to accepted participants prior to the Institute and used throughout the week.

The MacBook Pro features include:

  • Operating System: Mac OS X v. 10.4 Tiger
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 4MB shared L2 Cache)
  • Screen: 15.4-inch TFT display with 1440 x 900 resolution
  • Graphics Controller: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128MB of GDDR3 SDRAM
  • Memory: 2048 MB (667 DDR2, 2x512 SO-DIMMs)
  • Hard drive: 120 GB (5400 RPM, serial ATA)
  • Optical drive: 6x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
  • Ports: USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800, Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000), 802.11 b/g wireless, Bluetooth wireless
  • Battery life: up to five hours
  • Weight (computer only, without case or accessories): 5.6 pounds
  • Other: built-in iSight camera, Apple Remote with Front Row software

The complete hardware complement will include:

  • Laptop carrying case with embroidered UD logo
  • Logitech 350 noise-cancelling headset
  • Flash memory stick, 1 gigabyte capacity
  • Logitech V270 Bluetooth wireless/rechargable mouse
  • and a classroom cable connection kit with VGA, Ethernet, and audio cables.

Software

A software bundle will be included to allow faculty to apply all of the teaching models and instructional strategies that will be demonstrated throughout the week.

  • Audacity is open source software for recording and editing sounds. This installation include LameLib for making MP3 files.
  • NVU is a complete web authoring system to rival programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Nvu (which stands for "new view") makes managing a web site a snap. Now anyone can create web pages and manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML.
  • Xmeeting video conferencing software
