In the news: Leila Lyons elected head of ACM SIGUCCS
July 29, 2005  Leila Lyons, director of IT-User Services at UD, has been named executive committee chairperson of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on University and College Computing Services (ACM SIGUCCS), an association of professionals who support and manage information technology services at higher education institutions.

New UD copyright policy in effect
July 14, 2005 The “University of Delaware Policy for Copyright and Fair Use in Instruction” went into effect on July 1. The policy, which is available for download in PDF format, allows faculty and staff to use copyrighted works if the intended use meets certain criteria.

Sign up by July 11 for last basic MyCourses training sessions this summer
July 8, 2005 Faculty members are reminded that the last MyCourses introduction training session of the summer will offered next week. The next series of MyCourses training sessions will be offered in the fall after classes have begun.
- “MyCoures Intro,” which is required for new course designers, will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 12 in the Pearson Hall training center. Online registration is available.
- “MyCourses Hands-on: The Basics” will be presented from 1:30-4:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, at the Pearson Hall training center. Online registration is available.
Oral Communication Fellows program available
July 7, 2005 The Oral Communication Fellows are a group of students committed to improving the presentation skills of those seeking assistance in public speaking. These trained communication majors are available to mentor undergraduate students who are concerned about preparation for in-class presentations. They will be available, by appointment, through the Writing Center and in Pearson Hall during the fall semester.

Summer Faculty Institute helps faculty get 'technocomfy'
July 5, 2005 Dorothy Ross won’t be diagramming sentences on the blackboard much next semester.
The blackboard, a revolutionary technology when it was first introduced at the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1801, is being edged out of classrooms by tablet computers.
Ross, an instructor in the University Writing Center, will be writing on a new Gateway tablet with software that allows her to incorporate new teaching strategies learned at UD’s Summer Faculty Institute in June.
