Overview
The grant application process begins with a pre-proposal. Pre-proposals selected for further funding consideration will require a full proposal. All proposals will be evaluated by a committee appointed by the Provost.
What is being awarded?
The amount of each award will depend on the scope of the project. Typically, awards have not exceeded $20,000. All proposals must have some additional contribution either in actual funds or in-kind from the Department, College, or relevant unit.
Throughout their development, funded projects will receive assistance from a range of resources, as appropriate. As a pre-proposal is developed, faculty are encouraged to discuss instructional goals and strategies for meeting these goals with staff in CTE, GEI, IT's PRESENT and University Libraries (see Contacts). These same staff members will be available to discuss technology's role in helping develop these strategies Additionally, faculty members can be assigned an undergraduate/graduate student assistant, an instructional designer, content developers and technical support for those grants requiring such assistance (e.g., multimedia, web design, programming, etc.).
What are the goals?
The goal of the instructional grant program is to accommodate undergraduate instructional enrichment and course redesign requests from all academic areas. The committee's emphasis is on projects that focus on the following four General Education Goals:
- • Capstone courses. Develop the ability to integrate academic knowledge with experiences that extend the boundaries of the classroom. (Goal #7)
» Resources
- • Quantitative reasoning. Attain effective skills in oral and written communication, quantitative reasoning, and the use of information technology. (Goal #1)
» Resources
• Student Multimedia Design Center. Attain effective skills in oral and written communication, quantitative reasoning, and the use of information technology. (Goal #1)
» Resources
• Academic and student affairs. Develop the ability to integrate academic knowledge with experiences that extend the boundaries of the classroom. (Goal #7)
» Resources
- Other Goals.
Meritorious proposals strongly supporting any one General Education Goal will be considered.
» Resources
To advance these goals, projects that incorporate problem-based learning,
active learning approaches (e.g., case studies, collaborative learning, etc.)
or technology (e.g., MyCourses, multimedia, emerging technology, etc.) are encouraged. Faculty with project ideas beyond these four goals are encouraged to e-mail instructional-grant@udel.edu.
What are the requirements?
Pre-proposals must have the advocacy of department chairs. Final proposals must have department chair endorsement and will be prioritized by deans. Successful proposals will be those judged to have a programmatic impact on the undergraduate curriculum. Grants are intended for projects involving existing undergraduate courses instead of new courses. A particular technology solution need not be indicated on the template as the pre-proposal project idea will be used to assist faculty in determining the best technology to adapt to the project.
In addition, faculty must demonstrate that they have acquired or will acquire the appropriate teaching and technical skills and dedicate the time needed to insure not just a project's successful implementation but also its continued development and success. The accompanying preparation guide will assist you in exploring these issues in your department.
