- Wayne Batchis joins the Department as Assistant Professor in September 2008. Professor Batchis has a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate from the Johns Hopkins University.
- James J. Magee served as academic co-director for two short courses in Latin America during spring 2008: 'Rights in the US and Indigenous Leadership Institute,' March 17-29, 2008, Cusco (Peru), sponsored by the Fulbright Program for the Western Hemisphere and the Peru Fulbright Commission; and 'US Political System and Indigenous Leadership Institute,' June 9-20, 2008, Bogotá (Colombia), sponsored by the Fulbright Program for the Western Hemisphere and the Colombia Fulbright Commission.
- Jason D. Mycoff has been awarded a 2008 University of Delaware Research Foundation grant in the amount of $25,000 for a proposal entitled "Congressional Oversight and Federal Regulatory Agencies Database Project."
- Joseph A. Pika has been named the James R. Soles Professor of Political Science. The professorship honors Political Science and International Relations Emeritus Professor Jim Soles and his lifelong commitment to public service. Read more.
- Matthew Weinert has been awarded a 2008 University of Delaware General University Research grant in the amount of $6,000 for a project on "Human Welfare, International Institutions, and the Demands of Global Governance."
- Janet Johnson and Stuart Kaufman have been selected to attend Salzburg Global Seminars in Salzburg, Austria in 2008. Professor Johnson attended a seminar on ‘Combating Climate Change at Local and Regional Levels: Sustainable Strategies, Renewable Energy’ in July and Professor Kaufman will attend a seminar on ‘Peacemaking and Peacebuilding: Securing the Contributions of Women and Civil Society’ in September.
- Muqtedar Khan has been awarded a nearly $500,000 grant from the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for the implementation of a program called "Faith and Community: A Dialogue." The program will be implemented over the next two years and will involve exchanges of religious and community leaders from Eqypt, Saudi Arabia and the United States. Read more.
