The University of Delaware Department of Music
The Jefferson organ will anchor a new minor in church music, being offered
in the fall by the UD Department of Music. The minor is open to all
students, regardless of major, with basic keyboard skills.
"In establishing the minor we not only increase the offerings of the music
department, we help address the critical shortage of people going into the
field," David Herman, chairperson of the music department, said.
"Churches are in bad shape in regard to organists. We frequently get
calls asking us to supply a list of names of area organists and there just
aren't many people out there," Herman said. "It's the same thing
nationwide."
"The minor will allow us to equip interested students with basic skills in
organ‹enough that they should be successful in assuming roles as churc
organists."
