Dr. Jefferson is the retired chief executive officer of the DuPont
Company and a former member of the University of Delaware
Board of Trustees.
He holds an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University, granted in September, 1991 and serves on the National Steering Committee for the Campaign for Delaware. In addition, an endowed chair in the Delaware Biotechnology Institute has been named in his honor.
Both Jeffersons have been active supporters of the University and one of their two sons, Andrew M. Jefferson, an attorney, is a 1990 graduate of UD.
Jefferson and his wife donated a new state-of-the-art pipe organ to the University for use in Bayard Sharp Hall. It has been named the Edward and Naomi Jefferson Pipe Organ in gratitude for their gift.
