Now and Then

As time presses on we sometimes get caught up in the never ending advancement of technology.  The world sees all of the new inventions and achievements within the realm of digital storage and as their effect upon older products which soon become outdated.  Today we have all kinds of small gizmos and gadgets that can store all kinds of stuff and take up virtually no space.  But this was not the case in the past.  Technology from 20 years can be viewed as laughable by today's standards.  Just imagine instead of typing away at a small PC you are in a large room which is entirely filled with one computer.  It is important to look back upon the development of digital storage technology.  There is a very elaborate history of digital storage, but we are will focused on the most important items, so take a look through our Timeline of Digital Storage .

Along with thinking about the size and abilities of these past and present forms of digital storage, it is also interesting to compare yesterday's prices with those of today.  There is a huge difference in cost between the types of digital storage throughout history.  For instance, the standard IBM PC was sold for $2880 in 1981.  This is not that bad until you realize that it held 64kb of RAM and had no color.  These days one could buy a brand new high speed computer for this price.  Take a look at a some of the products now and then that have the changed the most over the history of digital storage.
