Uncovering Nature's Secrets to Successful Flight
Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Barry S. Lazos
NASA Langley Research Center

Man has always been interested in flight and has looked to nature for inspiration. The history of manned flight will be discussed along with NASA's current work with bioinspiration. Is nature better at flight than what we can build? Should we consider building airplanes that utilize flapping flight? What is the perfect shape for an airplane wing? These and other questions about research that has the potential to revolutionize flight will be discussed.

Dr. Lazos has worked at NASA Langley for over twenty years with experience in turbulent drag reduction, three-dimensional turbulent flows, and aircraft noise reduction. He received his Bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University, his Masters from George Washington University, and his Ph.D. from Lehigh University. He is currently working as a team leader in the development of a morphing wing vehicle and performing configuration biomimetics research for the purpose of induced drag reduction.
