Fall 1998 Section Meeting
University of Virginia
Charlottesville, VA

November 20-21, 1998

How to get to Charlottesville

Easy access to Charlottesville from the north and south is provided by US 29 and from the east and west by I64 and US 250. A convenient reference point is the intersection of US 29 Business route and US 250 Business route, which is the intersection of Emmet Street and Ivy Road and is easily located on the map of UVa accompanying the mailing and on the web map of UVa at http://www.virginia.edu/Map/. All of the sessions of the meeting will be held in the Physics Building, four blocks south of this intersection at the corner of Emmet Street (US 29) and McCormick Road. When traveling south from the intersection of Emmet St. and Ivy Road, you will pass under a pedestrian overpass and find a ramp up to the right just before another overpass, which is McCormick Road. The Physics Building is the first building on the right as you reach the top of the ramp.

The most convenient parking is in the Central Grounds Parking Garage located about three blocks south of the intersection of Emmet St. and Ivy Road on the left just before the pedestrian overpass on Emmet Street. It’s just a block from the Physics Building. There is an hourly charge until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, but parking is free after that and all day Saturday. Nearly all other parking is reserved during weekdays, and parking regulations are rigidly enforced. On Saturday parking is permitted in the Scott Stadium parking lot a few blocks farther south.

The banquet on Friday night will be held in the Colonnade Hotel Main Dining Room, which in local parlance, is located at the south end of the West Range in Thomas Jefferson’s original buildings for the University. Perhaps more helpful is to say that it is located in the building directly across McCormick Road from Monroe Hall (Commerce School).

The key sites for the meeting can be located readily on the map of UVa included with the mailing and the UVa website map, where they have the following designations:

  Printed Map Website Map of
McCormick Road Area
Parking Garage # 7 # 4
Physics Building # 74 # 31
Monroe Hall # 65 # 24

Colonnade Hotel is directly across McCormick Road from Monroe Hall (Commerce School). The Colonnade Hotel is also shown as Hotel E on the Academical Village Inset on printed map.
