Keynote Speaker

The organizing committee is pleased to announce that the SecondMalay / Indonesian Linguistics Symposium took place as originally planned, in Ujung Pandang on July 11-12.

As it turned out, the symposium was not affected by the turmoil in Indonesia. See the Indonesia Travel Updates, which includes links to travel safety information from Britain, the U.S., Australia and the Netherlands.

The venue for the Symposium was the five star

Hotel Sedona Makassar (The hotel gave us five star facilities at a no star price.)

As previously announced, there was no registration fee for the symposium. However, in return for the free use of the Sedona facilities, the hotel obliged us to purchase a meal and refreshment package for each participant. Accordingly, we imposed a very modest charge of Rp 60,000 (about US$4.00), or Rp 20,00 ($1.33) for students, which covered two refreshment breaks and lunch on each day of the symposium.

The symposium website is maintained by Peter Cole.
