Ellen Lynch is Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education and Director of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) at the University of Cincinnati. Her doctorate is in special education with a focus on early childhood special education. As Director of PBL she facilitates activities of the UC Problem-Based Learning Steering Committee which is comprised of faculty and administrators representing diverse disciplines, departments and colleges. Her current scholarly interests include exploration of the nexus of social constructivism, concept mapping and problem-based learning (PBL) in higher education and the use of action research to study group process and student learning in PBL classrooms. She is a reviewer for the Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning and coordinator of the PBL Special Interest Group for the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She is currently writing a textbook with a colleague on the history of early childhood education in which each chapter includes a PBL problem.
