9:40am Experience It Yourself (EIY): Stage 1 of Portal Systems
  Participants will work through a PBL problem, exploring a variety of strategies to use in problem-based instruction. Groups are expected to use their own experiences as well as written and online resources to research their problem.

  The process and objectives of problem-based learning, including discussion about models of PBL
noon Lunch
1:30pm What is a Good PBL Problem? (ppt, pdf)
  Participants will learn the characteristics of an effective PBL problem.
2:45pm EIY: Group Time to Complete Stage 1
  Groups will create preliminary recommendations to complete Stage 1 of the problem. Each team will create a short PowerPoint presentation and present its results tomorrow morning.

9:30am EIY: Report Back and Stage 2
  Groups will report back their Stage 1 ideas for improving Portal Systems. Presenters will also review subsequent stages of the Portal Systems problem.

  Each participant will work on developing a problem that could be used in class.
