Constituent Concerns
Ms. Simmons’ constituent asked if anyone knows about “The Bucket System.” Neither Dr Colm,
Mr. LaPenta or Mr. Holland had ever heard of this.

Mr. DiMauro’s constituent raised a concern about a faculty member who teaches at Winterthur, is handicapped, and received a parking ticket while at the Newark Campus while attending an event. This individual does have and displayed a handicapped sticker in their automobile. However, this individual did not have a gold hang tag. Ms. Simmons noted that there is signage regarding the requirement of a gold hang tag. Mr. Holland checked with Public Safety and received the following regulations for handicap parking which may be found at http://www.udel.edu/PublicSafety/parkingtypes.htm 'Use of handicapped spaces is restricted to vehicles occupied by persons who are handicapped and which bear an authorized Handicapped Permit (from the State of Delaware or another state) or bear a handicapped license plate. A valid University of Delaware permit for the lot in which the handicapped space is located is also required.' A permit is required on campus at all times. The ADA requires we provide handicap parking but allows us to treat them the same as other parkers as far as payment or registration goes. Mr. Holland also checked with the ADA office and was informed that they are aware that anyone parking in UD parking lots MUST have the appropriate permit, and a handicap tag/permit.

Committee Reports/Matters

Transportation Committee Meeting
Thursday, December 6, 2007

Margot Carroll, Director of Support Services, opened the meeting and passed out the Transportation Committee Meeting Minutes of Friday, May 4, 2007. Margot Carroll is in the process of doing the next year’s budget. The UD fuel cell bus is up for repairs… (They are waiting for parts for the bus which have to be imported). Graduate students were pleased by the past summer’s bus route (UNICITY) for commuting. Zip Cars are being considered for the UD Campus. These will be parked in and about various locations on the UD Campus. The cars are the purview of an outside vendor and will be run by them. As conceived, the cars will be rented by the hour and require no keys. The campus escort service is being monitored and the number of students calling for escort service by the UD police has increased significantly. The meeting was brief.

Announcements
Mr. Holland told the group that SSAC elections were completed and results would be communicated in the next couple of days.

The meeting adjourned at 3:08 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Richie Holland
