Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 2:40 p.m.

Meeting Minutes from November 7, 2012 were discussed and some changes were suggested.

Old Business
:

  • Blue lights – Although the area was found to be appropriate for the lighting, it is too much expenditure at this time and will have to be revisited at a later point.
  • Barnes & Noble steps have had tape added so the tripping hazard should be minimized
  • Parking issue across from General Services building is no longer a concern as it has been pointed out that those parking there are permitted to do so
  • Handicap space at Penny Hall no longer needs to be repainted as it is no longer a handicap parking space
  • Water Resources House steps – Tom LaPenta needs to follow up on this issue
  • Travel policy questions that were brought up at the November 7th meeting will be addressed at a future meeting by bringing in Debra Reese from procurement

New Business

Constituent Concerns

  • A constituent of Ms. Baxter suggested that buses are full during peak hours and they are having to wait for 3 or 4 buses to catch one with a seat
  • It has also been suggested that with the push to ride bikes to campus and with more students riding bikes, the University needs to look into having more bike racks and perhaps even looking into bike lockers.  As it stands now, students are locking their bikes on chain railings on the green and other places where they are not supposed to be doing so
  • A constituent also pointed out that the parking maps on campus are incorrect.  However, it is apparently being taken care of
  • Ms. Baxter has another constituent who is concerned about people riding Megabus or Greyhound and parking in the University lots for free without ticketing.  There is obvious discontent as employees pay to park and these bus riders appear to be parking where they please without getting ticketed.  However, we did have follow-up stating that these bus riders are required to pay $3 per day for parking in our lots and do get a permit for inside their windows.
  • Mr. Garbini wondered when HR would be posting all job descriptions.  Mr. Lapenta will look into this matter.
  • Ms. Urbaniak brought up the issue of the crosswalk that was approved by the City of Newark at South College Avenue where the Visitors Center resides.  Mike Parisi agreed to contact Mark Brainard to see where that issue stands
  • Finally, more buses need to run from Bob to main campus on days when students aren’t on campus (day before Thanksgiving, week before Christmas, etc), as employees are encouraged to park there and ride buses to main campus.

After tour of Biochemistry labs and Civil Engineering labs, meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm.
