Professional Advisory Council
Minutes December 1, 2010
The meeting was convened at 2:30 p.m. by Mr. Pusecker.
Others Present: Patty Fogg, Tom LaPenta, and Judy Allarey.
New representatives for Districts 4 and 10 were introduced, following the general PAC election for the even-numbered districts. Tom LaPenta explained the objectives and functions of the council and asked all members to review the by-laws and the Constitution. Any comments or concerns will be discussed in the next PAC meeting. The general elections for the odd-numbered districts will be held in July.

Tom LaPenta announced that President Harker will be invited to attend PAC meeting in the spring or summer.
Nancy Smallwood commented that minutes of the meetings are coming out late. Tom LaPenta said that minutes will be posted within two weeks of the last PAC meeting.
Charles Garbini said that because of the increase in prices of parking permits, and students not being allowed to park, there are now more open parking spaces.
David Brond will be invited to the next PAC meeting to discuss UD branding.
Bill Fitzpatrick is in favor of creating Parking and Transportation Committee with the representative constituents from PAC/SSAC/Graduate/Undergraduate/Faculty Senate/Union. Bill indicated that his organization is interested in representatives that will be engaged. Transportation and parking issues can be complex, and the committee will be expected to understand the subject and make thoughtful recommendations. Committee members will be solicited during January 2011 and the committee will convene in February.
Maureen Querey, Manager of Classification and Compensation, will be invited to the PAC meeting in January to discuss the Compensation Reclassification review.
Mike Parisi talked about the new Dining Hall and Housing that will be built. Status of current projects like the ISE Lab, University Bookstore, and the Bob Carpenter expansion was also discussed.
The new Wellness campaign for the New Year “Well on your Weigh”, starts on January 24, 2011 and runs thru March 13. The cost is $25 wellness dollars and kickoff event is on January 20, 12-1pm at 100 Wolf Hall. More details are available on the HealthyU website at www.udel.edu/wellness.
A constituent expressed concern over the apparent change in the budget requirements for proposals for research projects funding. Up until several months ago, it was sufficient to list broad categories of supplies and the anticipated cost in the proposal. However, due to recent changes, a more detailed list is now required including item name, quantity, unit price, part number, vendor, price quote and the date, within the funding period when the items will be purchased. Constituent feels that it’s a waste of time that could have been spent doing research, advising students or improving the quality of the technical portion of the proposal.
A constituent has a question on whether the University is considering ending employee tuition benefits. Tom LaPenta indicated that this is not being considered.
