General Information: Visas: Public Charge Announcement
Do not Become a Public Charge
All foreign nationals entering the U.S. must not accept any public benefits from federal, state, country or local public service agencies, as doing so may jeopardize your non-immigrant status in the United States.
You may be told by public service agencies including hospitals, clinics or social services that international students or their dependents can apply for public benefits, such as Medicaid, food stamps, federally subsidized housing, or special charitable benefits, often because the personnel at the agencies themselves may be unaware of the immigration law. To do so could jeopardize your non-immigrant status, especially if you travel outside the U.S. and then return - or you could be deported.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this new regulation, please contact the Office for International Students & Scholars.
