The University provides full-time staff to deal with the special concerns of foreign students and their families. It is their job to help you understand the workings of the American university and the United States in general, and to try to solve any problems which you may have. They act as liaison with the U.S. Immigration Service, and work with the international programs on campus. You should feel free to contact them about any matter that is of concern to you.
You may make an appointment to see Mrs. Susan C. Lee, OFSS Adviser, or Mrs. Mary E. Politakis, Staff Assistant or see the office secretary. The phone number is 831-2115 and their offices are located at 30 Lovett Ave, Student Services Building.
Items of interest (mail, etc.) to foreign students will be kept in the Office of Foreign Students & Scholars. Please check from time to time to see if any pertains to you.
- Student Counseling Service
- The service offers students the opportunity to discuss any matter that may be of concern to them in a confidential and professional setting. The emphasis is on helping the student understand himself better and to increase his competency in establishing realistic goals and in choosing rational means of attaining them. Eleven professional persons staff the service which is located in the Perkins Student Center on the second floor.
- Financial Assistance
- In case of financial difficulty, contact the Office of Foreign Students & Scholars as soon as possible.
- Employment
- Students interested in part-time employment during the academic year should first contact the Office of Foreign Students & Scholars to determine whether their visa status includes permission to work. You might also find answers to your employment questions here.
- Career Services Center
- The Career Services Center, located in 401 Academy St adjacent to the Perkins Student Center, acts as a placement agency for all enrolled students as well as students who have graduated (831-8479).
- Office of Graduate Studies
- Located in 234 Hullihen Hall, the Office of Graduate Studies provides answers to questions about admission or general concerns about graduate studies at the University (831-2129).
