As you start your studies in a new university and culture, you will probably have many questions such as: Whom do I talk to when there is a problem? Where will I live? Where do I eat? This website provides you with a list of important phone numbers and information on living at the University, in the town of Newark and in the United States. The Office of Foreign Scholars as well as many other members of the university community are available to answer your questions and to assist in any way possible. We hope to make your stay here a pleasant and enjoyable one. Please contact us with your concerns or questions or just stop by to say “ hello. ” We are looking forward to meeting you.

Upon admission to a program of study at the University of Delaware, international students are issued documents used to obtain F1 and J1 visas. Those visa holders who do not appropriately register with the Office of Foreign Students & Scholars (OFSS) by the end of free drop/add course registration period will be immediately reported to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Those visa holders enrolled in the English Language Institute will immediately be reported to USCIS for failure to register with OFSS by the end of the first week of classes unless prior notification of delayed arrival has been provided. Returning F-1 and J-1 visa holders will be reported to USCIS upon knowledge of failure to appropriately register or upon withdrawal from the University or English Language Institute without an approved change of status. All academic units in which international students are matriculated are obligated to report “ no shows ” to OFSS by the end of the free drop/add registration period in any given semester. Visa holders are required to regularly attend class to be in compliance with immigration and naturalization regulations. All academic units in which international students are matriculated are obligated to report to OFSS any student who is not in compliance with the attendance policy.

Note: Current USCIS regulations permit student visa holders to remain in the U.S. for a limited time (60 days for F visa holders and 30 days for J visa holders) without a change of status after completion of their program of study. USCIS regulates employment authorization and monitors those visa holders who participate in Optional Practical Training/Academic Training or other employment.
