Student Teaching Guidelines
All portions of the Student Teaching Guidelines can be viewed on-line or you can download the entire document as a PDF file.
The Office of Clinical Studies for Teacher Education takes pride in welcoming you to the student teaching semester. Since the field based component in our basic teacher preparation programs is one of graduated clinical responsibility, we hope that the student teaching experience will effectively build upon previous clinical experiences. Specifically, we hope that student teaching will provide (1) an in-depth opportunity for student teachers to observe and assess the effectiveness of a successful experienced teacher and (2) an in-depth opportunity for student teachers to develop and refine their instructional competencies as they prepare to enter the profession as a classroom teacher.
The purpose of these guidelines is to provide student teachers, cooperating teachers and university supervisors with information regarding the student teaching program. We provide suggestions about roles, responsibilities, and some suggestions regarding procedures and activities that might be employed during the student teaching period. We hope that you will make use of this reference during the student teaching experience. If any questions or problems arise, please contact the University supervisor or the Office of Clinical Studies in Pearson Hall, 831-2319.
