Student Teaching Application Procedures

Applying for Student Teaching - ECE, ETE, Secondary
    Please note that the online application process has changed. It is now composed of four parts. Make sure to review each step before begining the application process.

Applying for Student Teaching - Graduate Students
  Graduate Students may follow the above procedure or complete a Graduate Student Intern Application. Please inquire with the specific Program Coordinator for more information.
 
1.
Online Student Teaching Profile
    Every applicant for student teaching must complete this step. This information may be shared with districts and cooperating teachers to secure placements.
   
A.
Log into the online Field Placement System (FEPS) to access the Profile.
   
B.
Find Step 2, Level 3, Student Teaching
   
C.
Select 'Student Teaching Profile' (formerly, Student Teaching Information Form)
   
D.
Complete the entire profile. Make sure to select 'Submit'.
 
2.
Student Teaching Application
    Individual Programs may require students to complete either the FEPS Online Application or an application created by the Program Coordinator. This information will be given to students once the Profile is completed and submitted.
 
3.
TB and Criminal Background Clearances
    TB
    All student teachers must be able to provide proof of TB clearance. More information can be found on the OCS TB Information Page
      Criminal Background Check
      Depending on where you student teach you may need to obtain a criminal background check. More information can be found at the OCS Criminal Background Information page.
 
4.
Securing Program Coordinator Approval
    After completing steps #1 and #2 students must be approved to student teach by the Program Coordinator. Find a specific program below and follow the given directions.
 
Program Procedures for Final Approval
    Please find a specific Education Program for more information about the application process.
 
Agriculture 
      Schedule an appointment with Dr. Arba Henry (alhenry@udel.edu). Submit three copies of your completed Student Teaching Profile and a copy of your Computerized Analysis of Academic Progress.
   
ECE 
      Applications are due February 15, 2008. Submit 1 copy each of the Student Teaching Profile and Application to Ms. Ruthann Schurman in 111 ALW.
   
Elementary Education (ETE)
      Submit 4 copies of the Student Teaching Profile to your advisor.
   
English
      Complete Student Teaching Profile and English Student Teaching Application.
   
Family and Consumer Sciences
      Schedule an appointment with Ms. Kristine Ritz. Submit 3 copies of the Student Teaching Profile to Ms. Ritz at 105 Pearson Hall.
   
Foreign Languages
     

After completing the Student Teaching Profile and the Foreign Languages Student Teaching Application, submit copies of the following to Dr. Robb (107 Jastak-Burgess Hall):

        - Degree Progress Report (available on UDSIS)
        - Degree Completion Report "(Senior Checkout)", and
        - your Field Experience Record
   
Health and Physical Education
      Student teaching applications are due one semester in advance of the internship. Individuals must submit completed application materials to Dr. Steven Goodwin, (013 Carpenter Sports Building) by August 1 for spring student teachers or December 1 for fall student teachers. Required application materials include:
        - Five copies of the University of Delaware Student Teacher Profile
        - Retain a personal, complete copy of all materials! 
   
Masters Plus Certification (MPCP)
      Submit a hard copy of the MPCP Application to the MPCP Clinical Coordinator in 200 Academy Street, Newark, DE 19716
   
Math
      Schedule an appointment with your program coordinator. Submit 3 copies of your completed Information Form, Transcript, and a copy of your field experience record to your program coordinator for review during your scheduled appointment.
   
Music Education - Instrumental, Vocal
      Schedule an appointment with your program coordinator. Submit 3 copies of your completed Student Teacher Profile, Transcript, and a copy of your field experience record to your program coordinator for review during your scheduled appointment. 
   
Science
      Earth Science Students
        Make an appointment with Dr. John Madsen, jmadsen@udel.edu, in the College of Marine Studies and Earth Studies to:
        - Check Major GPA, overall GPA,
        - Praxis I, and II status
          - and complete a Senior Checkout Form
        After Dr. Madsen signs the Senior Checkout Form students must
then meet with Frank Newton, Assistant Dean of the College of Marine and
Earth Studies who must also sign off on the Senior Checkout Form.
      All other Secondary Education Majors
        Schedule an appointment with your program coordinator. Submit 3 copies of your completed Information Form, Transcript, and a copy of your field experience record to your program coordinator for review during your scheduled appointment. 
   
Social Studies - Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Science, Sociology
   
Follow the instructions listed on the Social Studies Program site, http://www.udel.edu/socialstudiesed/
   

Special Education (graduate only)

      Schedule an appointment with Dr. Al Cavalier.
   
TESL (graduate only) 
      Schedule an appointment with Dr. Scott Stevens. Submit 3 copies of the Student Teaching Profile to Dr. Stevens at 189 W. Main Street.
