PPD (Mantoux) Tuberculine Test
General Information for all Field Experience Students
EARLY FIELD PLACEMENTS AND METHODS - In order to comply with state regulations, it is necessary for all students to show written proof of a negative PPD (Mantoux) Tuberculin Test before working in the schools. Please note that a Tine or Monovac Test cannot be substituted for the PPD (Mantoux) Tuberculin Test. According to the State Board of Education policy, the test must be administered within 12 months of the beginning of your student teaching placement or your first early fields or methods placement. Results are valid for 5 years, however, at any time the nurse at your assigned site may require re-testing. The results of the test should be reported as positive or negative, recorded in millimeters (mm.), and certified by a health care provider.
STUDENT TEACHERS - DE Administrative Code, Title 14, Section 805, now requires that all student teachers provide the Mantoux tuberculin skin test results from a test administered within the past 12 months during the first 15 days of the placement.
New students must be able to provide proof of a negative tuberculin test that was administered within 12 months of the beginning of their first semester. In the case of returning students who have been tested previously, the results should be valid for 5 years in DE and MD. Students should retain a copy of the Tuberculin Test for future use. Students may have the PPD Tuberculin test administered by their physician, a public health clinic, or at Student Health Services (Laurel Hall) on campus. There will be a minimal charge to students who have this service performed on campus. Full-time students who have paid the health fee will be charged $5.00, and part-time students who have not paid the health fee will be charged $12.00. Payment can be made by cash, check, flex, or credit card.

Students engaged in clinical experiences prior to student teaching should return the form to the instructor of the course or to his/her designee.
