Our programs provide our graduate students with unparalleled skills and an exceedingly high level of preparation from which to launch their careers. They work directly with some of the most talented and productive research and clinical faculty in the country and have access to world-class, state-of-the-art facilities.
The College of Health Sciences offers M.S. degrees in exercise science, nursing, and health services administration and a clinical doctorate degree in physical therapy that is recognized as one of the top ten in the country.
We also offer both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees through our interdisciplinary Biomechanics and Movement Science (BIOMS) program. The BIOMS program includes faculty and physical resources from several different units including the departments of Mechanical Engineering; Physical Therapy; Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences; and Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as the Center for Biomedical Engineering Research. Our interdisciplinary approach—with participating faculty in sport biomechanics, physical therapy, applied physiology, engineering, and computer science—affords students a diverse educational environment. In addition, the collective research laboratories of the participating units provide exposure to outstanding facilities.
Our programs are strengthened through collaborations with partners in the healthcare industry, including hospitals, state and federal agencies, medical schools, and private corporations.
Our graduates can choose from the following majors:
Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Health Services Administration, and Post-Master’s Certificates - Clinical Nurse Specialist in both Adult and Pediatric Nursing, and Nurse Practitioner in both Adult and Family Nursing
Concentrations of Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Motor Control, or Sports Medicine - Areas of study include sensorimotor and neurocognitive aspects of musculoskeletal related injury, human motion and underlying forces, and the function and response of the human body during various conditions
Design, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion interventions - Areas of emphasis may include aging, exercise science, health psychology, nutrition, social marketing, health communications, worksite health, or customized study
Individualized graduate nutrition program - Combined M.S./Dietetic Internship also available - After completion of basic nutrition and research courses, students work with an advisor to develop a customized program for the remainder of the program credits
Clinical education to assist people to regain and maintain their physical strength and mobility - A nationally ranked program that provides the preparation for professional licensure in any state in the country
Master’s Degree and PhD in Biomechanics are graduate interdisciplinary programs with faculty from the colleges of Engineering, Health Sciences and Arts and Sciences - Programs of study focus on topics in the areas of biomechanics, motor control, applied physiology, exercise physiology, motor behavior and applied anatomy
