Mr. Prettyman obtained his Masters degree in Nursing at Wilmington College from the Family Nurse Practitioner program. He worked full-time as a Family Nurse Practitioner in a primary care office for three years and developed a passion for preventive medicine. For four and one-half years he worked in the Christiana Care Preventive Medicine Institute as Manager of the Medical Department. Mr. Prettyman has been a full-time faculty member since 2003, teaching in the undergraduate and grduate programs.

Allen is interested in the epidemic of obesity both from a preventive angle as well as a treatment focus. He maintains a part-time clinical practice in the Diabetes and Metabolic Disease Center at the Christiana Care Health System. He is currently a doctoral student in the Department of Individual and Family Studies at the University of Delaware. Mr. Prettyman is an active member of the APN Council of Delaware.
