Nursing Specialty Areas
Adult Health
Adult Health provides the learner with the conceptual foundation and practical knowledge base needed to develop essential core practice competencies and advanced skills inherent to the Clinical Nurse Specialist role. Course content is organized around the core CNS practice competencies as defined by the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists. Practice competencies that focus on assessment skills, therapeutic interventions, education of patients and caregivers, evidence-based practice, issues/trends in health care, leadership, collaboration, citizenship, cost effective care, innovations in practice, and mentorship are inherent in these courses.
Nursing of Children
The Clinical Nurse Specialist option focuses on developmental and health needs of children from birth through adolescence anywhere along the health continuum. The first clinical course focuses on wellness and acute illness; the second clinical course focuses on children with chronic conditions. The student's subspecialty within pediatrics guides the clinical focus and clinical seminars. Graduates are eligible to sit for the national certifying examination as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist's function in primary, secondary, and tertiary settings with individuals, families, groups, or communities. They are educated to assume the roles of expert practitioner, case manager, researcher, and consultant. |
