Graduation Information Summary

The University of Delaware has 4 graduation dates per year with 2 commencement ceremonies:

• If you finish in the fall semester there is a Commencement ceremony in early January.
• If you finish in the winter session your graduation date is the end of January.
• If you finish in the spring semester there is a nursing Convocation and a Commencement ceremony at the end of May.
• If you finish in the summer session your graduation date is the end of August.

The University of Delaware holds Commencement exercises with the entire graduating class on a Saturday date. The Department of Nursing holds Convocation on the Friday night preceding this Saturday but only in the month of May. You may attend one or both ceremonies. The nursing pins (if ordered) are presented at the Convocation ceremony by the Department of Nursing and is a much more personal event.

Check your graduation date in UDSIS

You can access SIS+ from the udel.edu homepage. In SIS+, the UD’s student record system, you have a graduation date. This generates an automatic mailing in your graduation year from the Office of Alumni Relations with all necessary information. If you have not received the commencement bulletin, call their office at 302-831-2341. The nursing department will also send you a letter by April. Please check that your graduation date is correct in SIS+ and if you find an error, notify the Fay Wood at 302-831-3012.

Walking

You may participate in Commencement exercises BEFORE or AFTER your official finishing date (This is called “walking”). You may have a maximum of 3 credits to complete in order to walk. This is made possible so that all those who want to may participate in the thrill of Commencement.

Cap & Gown and Pins

For the commencement or convocation ceremony you will need a cap & gown, tickets and an (optional) pin.

• To order the cap & gown call the bookstore 302-831-2637. Identify yourself as a distance-learning student. They will ship the cap & gown to you for an additional fee.
• To order the pin, call the bookstore 302-831-2637. They will send the pin directly to the department of nursing if you plan of attending convocation. If you will not be attending, ask that they send this directly to your home.
• A diploma frame may be ordered online: www.framingsuccess.com or through the bookstore.
• To request convocation tickets (up to 6 tickets total including one for yourself) request them by email at: faywoodl@udel.edu
