Grant Writing and Resource Development

Resource and fund development are among the most critical issues executive directors and boards of nonprofits and community-based organizations face. Building on over a decade of experience providing professional development training in Grant and Proposal Writing, a new and expanded Grant Writing and Resource Development Institute has been scheduled for this March. This new institute will equip you with skills to become even more effective and efficient in raising the funds needed to support the vital community development programs and social services your organization provides.

The institute will be conducted in three, one-day sessions taught over three consecutive weeks. The training format will use a combination of large group lectures, small group discussions and in-class exercises, take-home assignments, and a computer lab.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Formulate an effective and multiple funding plan for your organization
  • Develop case statements
  • Structure web-based campaigns
  • Develop a grant proposal
  • Develop organizational and program budgets
  • Learn to use the Internet to conduct research and identify potential local and national sources of support
  • Determine strategies to plan unique, low-cost special events

The institute will be taught by an experienced team of professionals. Gloria Crawford Thompson and Wayne F. Brown bring complimentary skill sets as the instructors. Their knowledge and skills include decades of experience in nonprofit resource development of both multi-million dollar nonprofit agencies and small to medium community-based organizations; organizational management; expertise in communications, marketing and public relations; community economic development; affordable housing development; operating and program finance; and social service program development and operation. Ms. Thompson has a master's degree in government relations from the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania . She is currently the resource development director of a $12 million child welfare agency in Philadelphia . Mr. Brown is a graduate of the University of Delaware and is the former executive director of Neighborhood House, Inc., in Wilmington , Delaware .

Registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis and class size is limited to 18. The course fee is $320.00 per person with a 15% discount for organizations who register 3 or more people. A limited number of scholarships are available.
