Brownfields Redevelopment and Environmental Justice Certificate CourseThe momentum to redevelop Brownfields (actual and perceived contaminated sites) is ratcheting up across the country. Cities, older suburban communities and rural townships are experiencing challenging economic and social circumstances! A number of contemporary planning issues are being brought to bear in the redevelopment of Brownfields: Smart Growth - an antidote to sprawl; sustainable reuse of once productive sites; urban revitalization; equitable and inclusive community development; incorporation of new energy sources; and, environmentally safe and sound practices. Nationally and locally recognized professionals with expertise in contamination remediation engineering, federal and state policy analysis, remediation and development law, community economic development and citizen participation, environmental justice policies and practices; and, Brownfields Finance will be the course instructors. This is a MUST learning opportunity for public, private and community stakeholders: community leaders, state and local public agency representatives, environmentalists, community-based development organization staff and board, realtors, bankers, attorneys and private developers. A limited number of scholarships will be available.
