Nonprofit Management Certificate Course:
Course Description
The Nonprofit Management Certificate Course consists of a 16-week program which surveys important and fundamental principles of nonprofit organization management, offered annually from February through May The Nonprofit Management Certificate includes full-day orientation and closing sessions and eight modules (see Curriculum) covering introductory management topics, for a total of 16 day-long classes.
The Orientation Session provides an overview of the program, introduces participants to one another, provides a management framework for the course content, identifies individual needs and group expectations, and initiates work groups for applying concepts and resolving problems. The strategic planning/management approach to management is emphasized in the Nonprofit Management Certificate Course and participants complete a strategic plan for the organization they represent as the final product of the course.
The course modules are conducted as seminar/application sessions focusing on key management issues facing nonprofit organizations. Each session consists of a lecture on a specific topic followed by individual and small group exercises which apply one or more of the concepts in the lecture to the specific problems of the participants. Outside class assignments include reading and completing exercises. The Closing Session integrates and synthesizes the program and provides a framework for applying management concepts to participant agency issues after the training is completed. Participants present their strategic planning assignments in the morning of the Closing Session.
