Professional Experience

1988-present: Winterthur Museum & Country Estate, Winterthur, Delaware

2001-present Director, Visitor Service Department, Public Programs Division
Supervise the daily operations for visitors, including museum tour program, garden tour program, visitor reservations, visitor reception and ticketing, and the institutional volunteer program (approx. 400 volunteers); approximately 16 full- time and 120 part-time employees and approximately 40 regularly-assigned volunteers; budget of $1,250,000 per year

Special project: Historic Houses of Odessa, historic properties owned by Winterthur in Odessa, DE; supervised visitor service from January, 2001, until c. January, 2002; supervised all operations from c. January, 2003, until February, 2005; was staff manager of change process that resulted in the transfer of the five historic properties in Odessa, DE, to a new foundation, Historic Odessa Foundation; included developing a request for proposal, recommending a consultant to the board committee, and managing the consultation project with Winterthur staff, the board committee, the town of Odessa, and local and state officials.

7/1999-2000 Acting Director, Education, Public Programs, and Visitor Service Division
Supervised museum tours, school and family programs, visitor service, and group marketing functions; prepared budget for FY2001 in the range of $1,600,000.

1995-2000 Curator of Education, Education, Public Programs, and Visitor Service Division
Responsible for continuing education programs for adults, programmatic access for people with disabilities, and supervision of interpretive staff; in conjunction with five program assistants and full-time guides, continuing education programs have grew from three to over 19 special programs, including programs for upper level contributor groups, such as Collectors Circle and Friends of Winterthur; responsible for a budget in the range of $350,000 with a net revenue in the range of $75,000 to $80,000 per year.

1992-1995 Associate Curator of Education
Supervised outreach programs to school and senior centers; supervised approximately 20 part-time interpreters; developed curriculum for and supervised special subject tour training

1988-1992 Project assistant
Worked on project, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, to produce Handbook for Winterthur Interpreters, used since 1992 as a training tool for Winterthur’s interpretive staff and as a textbook in Winter Institute, a three-week graduate level course about decorative arts; published in 2001 by Alta Mira Press (California) in conjunction with the American Association for State and Local History as Early American Decorative Arts: A Handbook for Interpreters, written with Pauline K. Eversmann
