MING SMITH MURRAY

MING SMITH MURRAY was raised in Columbus and later studied at Howard University, Washington DC. After moving to New York, she was a member of Harlem's Kamoinge Workshop for African American photographers. Smith Murray's work is in the collections of the Smithsonian, Washington DC, the Schomberg Center for Research in Black Culture and History, New York, and the AT&T Foundation. She was the first female African American artist to have work in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
