SAMELLA LEWIS
SAMELLA LEWIS (b. 1924) began making art as an undergraduate at Dillard University, New Orleans, where she studied with Elizabeth Catlett. She then earned her BA at Hampton University, Virginia, and her MA/PhD in Fine Arts and Art History from Ohio State University. Lewis helped establish the Museum of African American Art, Los Angeles, and the International Review of African American Art.
