ASHANTI JOHNSON

ASHANTI JOHNSON (b. 1950), born Amos Johnson in Charleston, South Carolina, assumed the name Ashanti to show his affinity for the Asante people of Ghana. His work uses representational imagery to convey cultural identity. Johnson is an alumnus of Syracuse University; his work appears in the permanent collections of the High Museum, Atlanta and the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston.
