REGINALD GAMMON
REGINALD GAMMON (1921-2005) fought for the equal representation of African American artists throughout his career. In 1963 he was invited to join Spiral, a black artists' group, and was a member of the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition. He continuously addressed the exclusion of African American art by mainstream institutions. Gammon retired in 1991 after 21 years as a professor of fine arts and humanities at Western Michigan University.
