DAVID C. DRISKELL

DAVID C. DRISKELL (b. 1931), born in Georgia, has written about and created extensively on the African American experience. Driskell received his undergraduate degree in art at Howard University and his MFA from Catholic University, both in Washington DC. His work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven. In 1998 the University of Maryland (where Driskell taught throughout his career) established the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the African Diaspora, which honors Driskell's 44-year career as an artist, educator, and philanthropist.
