DOUGHBA HAMILTON CARANDA-MARTIN III

DOUGHBA HAMILTON CARANDA-MARTIN III (b. ca. 1973) immigrated to the United States from Liberia in 1989 following the turmoil of the Liberian civil wars. He attended the School of Visual Arts, New York. Caranda-Martin addresses global themes through what it means to be African in America. He has had exhibitions at the Venice Biennale and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, opened Gale-Martin Fine Arts, New York, and is founder and CEO of Project Momentum, which advances “knowledge and preservation of African cultures through the promotion of African contemporary arts and the support of African-based charitable organizations in the fight against HIV/AIDS."
