BENNY ANDREWS

BENNY ANDREWS (1930-2006), born in Madison, Georgia, grew up in the rural south with 10 siblings. He received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and from 1968 to 1997 taught at Queens College, New York. His multimedia work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in the permanent collections of (among others) the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Andrews served as director of the Visual Arts Program at the National Endowment for the Arts from 1982 to 1984 and was on the Board of the MacDowell Colony, New Hampshire.
